Default So, about that alternator nut...

It looks like removing the alternator nut on my '99 M900 is a tough job. I need some kind of tool to hold the alternator/flywheel assembly stationary. Plus, it looks like the nut gets put on with considerable torque.

Besides the OEM tool from Ducati, anyone know where I can purchase a tool to hold the alternator?

I'm located a few sources for the clutch-basket tool, but no one seems to have one for the alternator. Just looking to save some money.

Thanks!

Answered my own questions.

It looks like the special tools are not necessary. In order to remove the flywheel nut (I called it the alternator nut), you just have to brace the flywheel and use an impact wrench. I braced the flywheel using a 3/8" bolt that was 10" long. I put the bolt into the side-hole of the flywheel and then braced the bolt on the bottom side of the drive chain sprocket. From that point the flywheel nut was off in a matter of 10 seconds with the impact wrench.

As for the clutch nut, same deal. I put an allen wrench into one of the holes for the clutch cover and then braced the clutch assembly with a box wrench. I positioned the box wrench so as to be braced on 3 of the clutch studs. Again, impact wrench made quick work of the nut.
