Default Frustrating Day - Bike Won't Start

Greetings All,

I purchased a used '05 620 several months ago and have been using it for casual weekend riding, and when I went to fire it up this morning, the oil pressure lamp stayed on and the engine did not fire. Just silence. The oil level looked a little low, and I live near Pro Italia, where I bought the bike, so I popped on down there and bought some oil and topped it off. Then I hooked up the trickle charger for several hours, in case the battery was low. This evening when I went to fire up the bike again, the oil pressure light is still on and there is silence. BTW, the bike had less than 1,000 miles on it when I bought it, they changed the oil at the time, and I have only put 200 miles on it, so I don't think the issue is the oil. I also have not ridden in the rain, so I don't think moisture on wiring is an issue (I read that thread...most informative). I'll give Pro Italia a call on Tuesday when they are open, but in the interim I was wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and had any suggestions. I'm a newbie with bikes, but I would imagine it's always something simple, and I was hoping to save myself a trip to the dealership if possible.

Thanks for replying!

Best to all,

Dan

Default Won't start

Makesure that your battery connection is tight and clean. You may want to remove the battery and take to your car parts store and they can test it. Check all connections you can see, you would be suprised. Other than that the starter may have gone bad, but I dought it. Good luck

Default I'm such an idiot!

Thanks for the advice! So I thought I'd sift through the owner's manual one more time. I suppose it helps to have the bike in neutral when starting with the kick stand down! Pffft!

Best to all,

Dan

Hey Dan, as a former MSF instructor, even I've done the "in-gear sidestand down" starting procedure ??? I almost replied for you to check the starting relay and of course battery connections. Glad you consulted "MOM." (Motorcycle Owners Manual).

Disengaging that safety was one of the first things I did on my monster, although I would not recommend it for any other model on account of the fact that the kick stands are further forward then on the monsters, and will throw you down the road if you forget to put em up.
