So I have a '13 1100 EVO. I've read a few threads of people getting a horrible death wobble and headshake. I've experienced minor headshake once on my old bike but not on this bike (knock on wood).

1) Is a damper necessary on our bikes? And I don't mean for poser value. Is it really necessary if doing the occasional pow pow off the line or just riding hard every once in a while?

2) Which brand is the most recommended? Scotts seems to be recommended. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

Any insight much appreciated.

I just replaced the pads on my 2008 S2R1000 and the front brakes seem to "stick" or "grind" a little after sitting at a light or a stop sign. When I release them and go to accelerate, it feels or sounds as if they grind a little (for about a second) and then work perfectly.

Any thoughts?

I do remember that I didn't have/install any brake pad "grease" between the pads and the calipers and am wondering if this is what is causing the issue?

2008 S2R1000 - Massive DECEL Popping - Help!!!

I have a 2008 S2R1000 that I am "rebuilding" as it was a salvaged bike. I just had the valves checked and shims set/replaced as well as the timing checked at European Motorcycles in Pittsburgh and the motor runs strong.

However, the bike has a ton of decel popping. They are not large backfires, but a lot of smaller "rapid fire" pops/popping even under light deceleration.

The bike has a full Remus Exhaust and I've installed a BMC Air Filter using the factory air box so I realize the air-flow is greater but I thought that since the bike is fuel injected, the computer would somewhat compensate for the change in the amount of air-flow.

I do plan on getting rid of the big, ugly charcoal canister and plugging up the hoses that are attached in the near future but is there anything I can "tweak" on the bike that will get rid of this or do I have to invest in a Power Commander (or similar)???

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi - Things all came together and I bought a red 2011 796 w/ABS on April 23. The only problem is that I live in Atlanta but have been working in Canmore, AB, Canada since April 28 and have only been home one weekend since then.
After a string of dirt bikes, used Yamahas and a couple Harleys I can honestly say I that I have found my dream bike. It is red, sexy & Italian! Even my wife thinks it is a good looking bike.
I am 49years old and started riding on a Honda Mini-Trail. The last bike, before the Monster was a Yamaha SRX6. It was a fun bike and is now for sale if anyone is interested -$1200 or trade for a mini-milling machine with tools.
I love checking out what guys have done to their bikes and how they did it. I will post some pics of my bike soon.

Thought I'd share this little weekend project with you guys.

Never being too fond of any of the fender eliminator kits I decided to make one myself, kinda. The new Monsters have a sharp tail design but it gets cluttered up with bulky FE kits and that clunky exhaust valve. I like my tails like my women...lean and sexy. I modified my Motodynamic FE kit with some lovely carbon fiber to make this...

Before you say it...NO I never ride in the rain! This would be a terrible idea if you did.

I relocated the license plate further back (re-purposing the unused exhaust hanger mounts) using the Motodynamic fender kit as a template. I extended the carbon all the way down to where the plastic tool kit box resided. I used 2mm sheet 1x1 carbon fiber weave for the base. I ditched the key lock for a manual pull hidden under the subframe rail. I still have to trim and sand some of the carbon corners to make it 100% complete but it's almost there. The result is a very clean and flush undertail. Lost about 2lbs off the tail in tail in the process.

...of the oil drain plug? I had to order a new one and it looks totally different than the existing plug. At first, I thought they sent me the wrong item. But, then, I looked it up on google and saw pages of pics showing a plug similar to what I got.

What is the grayish (I am guessing metal) cylindrical thing that moves around on a brass axle?

I like that the plug appears that it will be flush with the case, instead of bumping out like a wart. And the hex key is much better than the socket design.

Hello all! I'm so glad I found this forum... I've been lurking for a while, and you are all obviously a very experienced and knowlegeable community!

I looking into getting a 2013 Monster 1100evo. The twin tourque, 1100 power, riding position, and asthetics are what I'm after. After researching, I'm confident that it's the bike I want under my ass.

My biggest concern: I will be commuting a fair ammount (280-300 miles a week). Is this the kind of riding that would make you long time Ducati owners cringe? Would I be blowing through belts quickly? Punishing the engine? etc... I'm just not familiar with how much of a "workhorse" they are.

Any wisdom will certainly be welcome.

Glad to be a part of the site, and hopefully part of the riders community soon.

Hello,

I need to get a new key made for my 2009 Ducati Monster 696. I've searched the threads and found 2 places so far:

http://www.allmotorcyclekeys.com/products.php?cat=11
http://www.sosdiagnostics.com/contact.html

One is in OR and the other in ME. Is there a place in/near Chicago that could duplicate or at least cut the 2nd key for me? All the local places I've called so far cannot cut the Ducati keys.

Thanks!
