Hello, I'm new to the board but can't find any posts that may help me explain what's on my bike. I thought I may have potentially had leaky exhaust gaskets, as the residue is similar near both exhaust ports. What makes its weird is the residue looks like wet gas/oil...but when you touch it, it's rock hard. It almost looks like someone lacquered over the exhaust port area? It's very odd. I can kind of scrape it off on flat surfaces areas when it's warm, but that's about it. Has anyone experienced this or know what it may be? The one gasket I took out on the leading cylinder was still in good shape, replaced it anyways since I had already ordered two. The guy I got it from bought it from a BMW dealership and had no service records. I did take it to my local Ducati dealer for a 7500 mile service, just to be safe, and they never said anything about it, or that anything was leaking. The bike runs great, so is it even anything I need to worry about?
Looks like there is corrosion on your bolts and nut, the white powdery looking residue but hard to tell what you are talking about. Are you are talking about the brown darkening on the fins? If so that almost looks like it was an oil leak of something spilled on it then cooked it when the motor is hot and stained them. Guess you can try some cleaners and try and clear it up. If it's just on the exterior and nothing leaking and motor is normal and exhaust smoke I would say it's just cosmetic.
It's the shiny, wet looking part in the photo. I checked the top of the head, and it's not leaking from there. At this point I'm pretty sure it's cosmetic, but I did scrape some off on the leading cylinder, so I can see if that changes at all while riding.
I kinda thought the same thing, about it being repaired at some point. The area hasn't gotten any bigger since I've had the bike. It's just weird that it's hard. It looked like it had been knocked over before, too, but at very low speed as there no scratches on the tank, just the engine cover and bar end, so maybe something leaked out? When I got it, there guy did tell me he had to replace an o ring and fuel lines from the fuel pump, so maybe fuel leaked on it at some point?
Thanks for all the responses guys, much appreciated!
