So I went for a long ride today with my Monster 1200S. What a great machine. I noticed about half way through my ride (and it could have been always there) that if I was in neutral and I revved the engine, when the RPMs go back to idle I feel and hear a sort of clunk. It doesn't sound bad and it doesn't happen all the time. It really odd and probably normal, but I wanted to see if anyone else experienced this.
Let me know if I need to be more accurate with my description.
Another not normal sound or feeling. I suppose you bought that white 1200s you posted about earlier. That bike is having issues and should go into the dealer to get sorted out. Unless the sound is a pop or backfire from the exhaust which is usually heard on deceleration not at idle.
Although all naked bikes are loud, if you are hearing/feeling any kind of unusual sound in neutrel that does not sound normal to me. If you got it from a dealer I would bring it by for them to take a listen. The only time you should hear a clunking would be shifting into 1st from neutrel.
Yes I got it from a dealer. I'll have them take a look. The noise isn't always there, it's kinda like when I'm revving in neutral and the rpms rev back down to its lowest point there is a tiny clunk and if feels like the engine settles. I know this isn't very easy to understand. Thanks for all your help.
I do have an update. I took her out for a ride and really tried to listen and find out where the noise is coming from. So what I found was my original description isn't completely accurate. I hope I have it right this time.
So here are my updates... The sound I'm hearing isn't when I'm in neutral. I hear a clunk/click when I'm in 1st gear and I have the clutch lever pulled. Then when I rev the engine and when the RPMs come back down to idle I hear the clunk. I can't be certain but I think it's coming from the left side of the bike, meaning maybe it's from the clutch or gearbox.
Ok, let's see if anyone might be able to chime in.
Thanks in advance.
