I know this can often cone down to personal preference, but what tyres do you run on your Monster 1200?
The bike I test rode on the weekend had the stock Pirelli's on it. Whilst I've found those to be a great summer tyre on bikes in the past, I ride all year round and they didn't perform very well at 2 degrees Celsius on the test ride.
I had the Metzeler M7 RR's on my S1000R and they were excellent in both the wet and the dry. However, I wonder if the tyre profile will be too tall for the Monsters slightly more sport roadster setup.
Conti Sport Attack II as front tyre, Conti Sport Attack II or Conti Road Attack II Evo as rear tyre. The M7 RR is also fine, the Contis seem to have a little more grip at lower temps.
I run a Rosso Corsa in the front and the stock Rosso II in the rear. I rode all last winter as long as it was above 32F and not wet. I only had one rear wheel slip and that was my fault for taking a turn to aggressive before the tires had enough time to warm up. I always run my tires down a few psi in the winter. The lower pressure will allow them to heat up more and have a bigger contact patch.
Thanks for the input guys, appreciated. Tempted by the M7 RR's but also the Pilot Road 4's although I wonder if those are a bit to 'touring' for the Monster.
Fitted a set of the Metzeler M7 RR's in the d guys. Awesome tyres, and suit the bike well, just brilliant performance in all conditions. Got about 3.5K mikes out of the rear on my S1000R, hoping for the same on the Monster.
Michelin Pilot Power 3. So far great tires. They heat up quick and have great grip. Can't speak on longevity since I've only had them on a month. So far I like these a lot better than the Pirelli Rosso 2.
im running pirelli diablo supercorsa SP. expensive but they look good and have amazing grip. my second option was the dunlop qualifier Q3 and will most likely be the set i buy next.
I just put the Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3s on the rear 5/4/16 at noon. By 5/5/16 at 6pm I had my chicken strips down to less than 1/4 of an inch and they have never been that low before. I feel so confident in these tires, it's a world of difference. Very Very happy with the purchase.
The Rosso 3s are suppose to have a harder compound in the middle than the 2s and a softer compound on the sides than the twos. So you should have more grip in the corners and get more mileage out of the center. I'm excited to see how long they last.
