Default Yet Another DMV Gripe

After no license renewal notice arrived in the mail before my license expired in February, I had to make a dreaded DMV appointment to do it in person. I was informed by the DMV clerk/minion that because I held an M1 permit, I had to either take the road test (yes, the ridiculous circle) or surrender the permit, JUST to renew my stinkin' driver's license! I've had the M1 permit for less than a year. I thought about taking the road test, but a) I'm not ready, b) would rather take MSF, and c) thought it much easier to take the written test again. So here I am, taking the written test AGAIN today. I could teach a frickin' course on it by now. DMV bureaucracy sucks! Has anyone else had a similar ridiculous experience with the DMV?

I may have mentioned this before, but I had an old enduro with some title issues when I was 18. The DMV, after 4 hours bickering with me, issued a temporary permit to operate (the DMV used to do this in the early 90's) it until I cleared up their questions on the title. I finally did that, was on my way to the DMV, and a local cop pulled me over. He stood there and tore up the temporary permit to operate in front of me and impounded my bike for not having proper registration > Little did he know that I was being followed by a good friend who witnessed the whole episode ;D We ended up getting him suspended after talking to his captain.

Not completely a DMV nightmare, but one that never would have happened had the DMV simply accepted the signed reg card I had when I bought the bike :

Good luck on the test, babe. You'll do just fine!

You could totally ace the test riding the Road Mower! Go for it.

We went and practiced on it. Not easy at all, especially with drum brakes. A bit more practice, and it'll be fine.

Congrats! [thumbsup] (did they have a question on the throttle sticking? [cheeky])

I don't have a scooter but when I did the DMV riding test 9 years ago, I dialed up the starter (the thing that those MSF bikes have when you warm up the engine...what do you call that again...*sigh* ESL issues again...) on the older bike I was taking the test on and it gave me just enough gas to power through the rings at a slow enough and steady speed to go around.
