A Bolinas man was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter early Wednesday after a hit-and-run crash that killed a Corte Madera man near Stinson Beach.
Mario Fabrizio Iaconi, whose pickup truck was found abandoned at the crash scene Tuesday, was arrested just after 1 a.m. Wednesday after a police search of more than six hours.
Iaconi, a 44-year-old carpenter, is accused of fleeing after running his truck into two motorcyclists on Panoramic Highway, police said. The crash killed one motorcyclist, identified Wednesday as 43-year-old Steven Shannon of Corte Madera, and severely injured another motorcyclist, 48-year-old Eric Wilcox of Kentfield.
The crash was reported at 6:18 p.m. Tuesday on Panoramic Highway just east of Shoreline Highway, a twisted section of road where Mount Tamalpais State Park meets Stinson Beach.
Police said a white Chevy pickup truck was on westbound Panoramic Highway - a downhill ride to the coast - when it crossed over the yellow double line and struck the oncoming motorcyclists, Shannon riding a 2006 Ducati 1000 STS and Wilcox on a 1998 BMW 1150 GS.
I still haven't met most of the folks here, but sincerely hope it wasn't one of us.
