GP Shift...Taking the Plunge
OK, I've decided to conquer my demons and switch to a GP shift pattern. Reading up on it in the tech & mods sections helped, so I stopped by <insert-anonymous-duc-shop-here> to peruse the offerings. I walked out with a beautiful piece of hand-made billet from a small shop:

I'll be putting this on the Monster in the next few days. If that works out well, I'll throw another shifter (maybe the Motowheels one) on the Supersport to keep myself from getting confused ;D

Re: GP Shift...Taking the Plunge
Why not just flip the linkage on the supersport for now?

Re: GP Shift...Taking the Plunge
good move.
I vaguely remember my dirt bike was set up like this as a kid. It seems more natural and definitely makes sense on the track.
Let us know how your mind adjusts to this. I want to make the same change in the near future.

I thought about that. But I want to try it on the Monster first to see if I can handle it. And everyone knows I can't resist nice billet when I see it in a display case ;D

I also feel that it's a "cleaner" shift with the direct rod as opposed to flipping the linkage. My 749 was setup with a CC GP shifter and it was perfect.

Re: GP Shift...Taking the Plunge
I installed it on the Monster this afternoon (sorry, no pics yet). At first, I was concerned with the length, and my inability to get my foot under it. But then I rotated it counter-clockwise a bit and it felt allright. A run up & down my block has me thinking the shifting is smoother, but I'll have to try it out around town to be sure....and I won't get to do that till Friday. Damn.

Re: GP Shift...Taking the Plunge
BTW - Spidey, I don't see how I could flip the linkage on the Supersport. I think it'd interfere with the slave cylinder on that motor.

Re: GP Shift...Taking the Plunge
Good move. [thumbsup]
All the dirt bikes I grew up with had that shift pattern. Its always bugged me riding the stock way. GP style seems more intuitive.
Press down = go faster. + Clutchless shifting is WAY easier & faster to me GP style.
Anyone know why shift patterns are one way or the other? What's the deal?
