Thanks for the offer. The handlebars are not original though. Haven't heard from Desmoto yet about the estimate for the repairs ...

That blows. I know how you feel though. I rode the wife's 695 to work ( a month back), since she hadn't ridden in a couple of weeks and some a'hole there ran into it in the underground garage, knocking it over, and then leaving. At least yours is some anonymous a'hole. Mine is a coworker.

FWIW, the asst. DA for San Fran is a monster owner, and avid rider. She likes to see knuckleheads get what they deserve. >

Well, I do hope so. The estimate for the fixes is almost $1,500. Maybe the other guy's insurance puts a little more effort into catching that person than mine.

Anyway, I'm off to my holiday and won't think about this for now.

I'm dealing with a hit and run driver who f'd up my bike too. And I have the license # like you. Here's my take on it:

I'm assuming you filed a police report since you mentioned talking to the cops. That report, once they file it in 2-3 weeks, will have the car owner's name, address and VIN. With that info you can try to get her to pay for the damages directly, or find her insurance co. if she has one. The owner of the car that hit my bike was uninsured. So I'm onto plan B: small claims court. I think that the car owner is liable even if the car is stolen from her. I was told so by a lawyer who was fairly certain. I have only just begun the process by mailing the woman who hit my bike a letter outlining the incident, the damage, and the $$ she owes me, with pictures, itemized costs, and repair estimate from a moto shop. I've been told my cynics that it's hopeless and that I'll never see a dime, but I think it's def worth a try. Let me know if I can fill you in an any more details of what you should do.

Or maybe you have coverage for being hit by an uninsured driver? In which case, disregard everything I just said 8)

Same problem here, when I got the bike I was cheap and didn't get Uninsured Motorists coverage. Thing is, I'm flying to Hong Kong for two months tomorrow morning. Send me a PM, I guess I'll just try the same way ...

$1500!! That seems like a lot of damage. Were the forks bent? What did they say needed fixing?

Just curious - in this situation would comprehensive and/or collision coverage take care of it for you? Or are you just f'ed if you didn't buy uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage?
