Oh yeah--I forgot this forum requires me to post links th hard way....I'll fix it.
Street wheels were submitted for TUV, DOT and JWL testing and are stamped such on the wheels. They use 6000 series hubs, steel assembly bolts and stronger rim outers. These test 5X stronger than aluminum wheels.
Race wheels use lighter 7000 series hubs, Titanium hardware and lighter outers. These still test many times stronger than alum or magnesium wheels but weigh almost a pound lighter than street version.
I use the race wheels on the 999R and 996R street/track bikes. Our Monster, SS, MV and 1098 uses BST street versions. There is not a huge difference on the street--but it is noticable at track speeds. It is more noticable to save the weight in the wheels than static sprung weight like a carbon tank.
