It really, really, really sucks that this is taking so long. I need that bike so that I can get through traffic. Taking my car requires that I leave home at 5:30 AM to beat the traffic insanity. With the bike, I can ride the car-pool lane.

I'm really disappointed in Ducati. In this down economy, companies need to realize that they've got to keep customers happy; especially customers like us who have already ordered and put money down on a bike, but who could potentially ask for a refund and pick up another marque.

I only wish there was another bike that I liked right now.

I spoke with my dealer today. He has not heard anything about a further delay and still expects the arrival of the 796 ABS during the last week in August / 1st week in September. He believes he would have been informed if the date had been pushed back, however he did say that anything is possible and maybe other dealers know someone higher in the chain or who is more 'in the know'.

Thus he has no reason to believe the date has slipped, at least as of yet, for those bikes that are on pre-order (from the original allottment).

He did not hear from Ducati based on the promised made to me directly by both the email and telephone customer support folks I communicated with who promised me they would be contacting my dealer ASAP to provide them with any updates on expecting shipment / delivery.

I hope it arrives sooner rather than later. I got a ticket for blowing through a stop sign yesterday after being insanely frustrated by traffic due to congestion and demonstrations.

Also have a 796 abs on order. The store has a couple of non-abs versions and supposedly mine is in it's way, but no word on a date yet. I figure they should arrive around the US at the same time, but hoping it will be less than a week from now... Wishful thinking, I know

Hopefully our ABS models got on the boat before the August shut down... It will make the difference between a couple of weeks versus mid to late September....

Just another quick update:

I was contacted by my dealer today. He received a call from Ducati reaffirming the bikes they have on order and confirming they are 'in inventory'.

When I asked him what 'in inventory' means, he said that it means the bikes are ready to ship (if they have not already shipped). It still does no guarantee an arrival date, but nonetheless he considered it to be positive news.

They most definitely did in fact! They're heading to California right now...
