Default 1098 Nichols Lightweight Flywheel and Sump Cover

I just ordered these two items from Nichols Manufacturing today. They say their dyno test of the flywheel showed no power increase, but the TIME it took to run through the dyno run was suprisingly shorter with the lightweight flywheel. Looking forward to trying it out. I figure since I have to drain the oil and coolant to do the install, I might as well swap out for Engine Ice and do the sump kit as well.

Yep. Nichols said the hardest part was torquing it back down, but between my buddy and I, we should be able to keep the rear end from spinning as I tighten it up. Yet another reason I own torque wrenches.

Stick a large tree stump through the rear wheel, it shouldn't spin

I was thinking more along the lines of using the rear nut socket and a breaker bar to keep it from spinning, but a 2x4 will work if I have to resort to wookie engineering.

Do you have a socket that large?

I've got the Ducati rear socket tool for the rear wheel/hub. IMO though, if someone sits on the bike with the front and rear brake locked down, I doubt the rear will spin. I've cranked down the rear wheel on my Speed Triple to 150 ft. lbs. with just the rear brake pushed down and gear in 1st and it didn't spin at all. Anyone know the exact torque spec for the flywheel? I know it'll come with the instructions for the install, but just wondering.

Should make for a very different ride!!! From what I gather, this will make acceleration shoot through the roof, but taking off from a stand-still might require a bit of a clutch-dump.... Should be fun!

Good luck on the install!

Well it already requires a bit of clutch dump with the stock exhaust and mapping. It'll definitely be interesting to feel the difference before and after though. I live right next to the tollway so I'll probably do a ride around the block then up the tollway and over 121 to Barry's to do the work. Then I'll take the same route home (hopefully a just a few hours later...).

I'll definitely post up photos of the install and my impression of how the bike rides afterward. Figured this was a good start on the long road to my final goal; BST's, full system, Nemesis, etc. etc.
