Re: burrito run?
I drive around the country alot and here's pretty much what you can expect.
My buddy and I did a non-stop from SLC to West Chester averaging 75 mph. Stopping only for gas, it took us 32 hours IIRC. This was starting the drive at 3 pm SLC and arriving at like 10 AM a day and a half later. We hit no traffic, no weather and miraculously did not get pulled over. The rental we were in started with 12 miles on the odo, we returned it with 5k or so. I wish I was there when they checked it in.
To get to the opposite coast is another 12 or so from SLC. Obviously add two hours to get to AC so now you're talking around 50 hours in a car. For reference sake, it's about 12-14 depending on how brave you are to make it from WC to Chicago. The run through Ohio is laden with cops. This is all going across on 76 to 80. Don't fogret making it down from Reno on the pass. If a fluke snowstorm happens, you're eating each other...
We'll be driving back from Redlands, CA in the middle part of the month and heading to Tour de Georgia. We'll be towing a 22 ft trailer pulled by a 15 passenger van going the southern route and we're already budgeting a total travel time of 3 1/2 days. This is driving 12 hours a day and with a thristy v10 stopping every 240 or so miles for 30 minutes at a time for fuel.
Whoever thought being a bike mechanic would turn you into a long-haul trucker?
