Default Almost a very bad day!!!

So it was beautiful out today..58 and sunny, so I decided to spend the day out riding the back roads of chester county. I was on my way down 202 to my favorite spot when...BAMMM. I hit a massive pot hole doing around 70. It threw the bike into the air, and the ass end out to the side. Luckily I stayed in control. When I pulled over to inspect the damage their was a huge dent in my front rim. I don't know if it is fixable or not, but it definitely not safe to ride on as I can feel the lump on every right hand turn. All in all I feel lucky, it is easy to replace a rim not so easy to replace the whole bike.

Be safe out there everyone.

yeah, the roads in pa suck period, even when they patch them they still suck, just give yourself enough room behind cars to be able to react

glad to hear you made it through.

I just went out for a little jaunt for a bit as well. 282, 345 and other roads in between are still pretty sketchy. Besides potholes, there's crap everywhere.

Alot of the roads here are still covered with a fine silt of gravel or whatever else they use when it's slippery out, it was hard to really commit in a corner for fear of lowsiding especially this early on. Some spots are good but with the way traffic is, the center of the lanes are still covered in silt as well as intersections. 282 has also sprouted some new stop signs so now they're four way instead of the usual two.

Also, I think they're still using alot of broken glass in the same mix for traction as I noticed some superficial cuts in my tires similar to what I've seen on my road bike (except those endt up being punctures on the bicycle).

Careful out there! It may be warm(er) but it certainly isn't super nice yet!

Not sure if it's an old wives tale, but I hear that if you contact PennDOT sometimes they will reimburse you for the damage. I know one guy who says he received money and another person who's claim was rejected.

sorry to hear about the wheels sims. I'm the proud owner of a few slightly bent ones as well......
Glad you're ok, it could've been much worse.

I got out for about an hour after work. Same story: weather=awesome, roads=suck [laugh]
I did find a really fun road though. A section of it is like a roller coaster, just up and down a few times. The nice kind where you can loft the front tire if you goose it some ;D Way fun!

Glad to hear you're okay.

Thanks for the warnings everyone. I was thinking of heading out to Kutztown today. Looks like it'll be a gentle ride. I'll probably be leaving this morning so I don't get stuck in the rain this afternoon.
