Decisions decisions...
Ok guys, here is the drill. As some of you know, South Sees has that '06 Sport Classic down there that I am interested in. Well, I went and did the unthinkable; took it for a test ride today. As you can imagine, I am just a bit impressed with the bike. It already has a 2-1 Termi system on it (Will, do you know if it has the matching DP chip?), which sounds flippin amazing as well as being a dry clutch bike, which I think is beautiful thing as well. Now here is the kicker, it would not make anywhere near as good of a commuter bike as the monster does. I already know that I would/will need to replace the clip-ons with a set that have a touch more rise to them, but that would not be all that hard to do. So here is the question, if it was you, and your bike, would you keep an S2R800 and continue to mod it, or replace it with something like the Sport Classic 1000? Suggestions and logic behind them if you will please.

Yea, I am the same. But I am afraid to say that the Monster will be going bye bye if I decide to move on the SC.

Re: Decisions decisions...
I went down to have a look at that bike today too just to see what you're talking about. I was sort of in the "neighborhood" anyway as I had to get Gloria's car to my shop (fuel pumps, filter & fuel pump relay needs replacing). I also wanted to catch a glimpse of Chris's 1098 but it wasn't in sight. Last week I was in the Parts Dept and I remember walking by a Sport Classic in the showroom. It just didn't sound like the same bike but I saw the bike you are talking about tucked in the front corner of Service. Yep. Very nice. It's got all the right stuff for sure. More power than the 800. Cool exhaust and more of a sporting ride. Dry clutch. If that's what floats your boat then get it. It's not cop bait like the Superbikes are. It's not as all purpose as the Monster is but you know that already. It's cooler than the Monster is.
Now question. Did they take it in on trade? Will said they bought it back. That can be taken as an odd statement in one sense. Usually when a dealer talks about a "buy back" they had an unhappy customer and a vehicle with warranty problems that couldn't be fixed. That might not be the case at all here but it would be interesting to know the story behind the story. If it's not a good time to have two bikes and this bike make your heart go pitter patter then get the Classic. That's how I voted. Better do it quick before you get a ride on the 999 and realize that the 848 is about the same or even a bit better. If that happens you are really done for. [laugh]

Re: Decisions decisions...
Yea, I rode the bike today and it was really nice. One of the things, and it is one of the only things, that I have found wanting about the S2R is that it does not have a dry clutch. I don't know what it is about that thing, but I just seem to think/feel that Ducs should just have them.
As far as the trade goes... The bike used to belong to the star of Lost, whoever the hell that is. The story that I have heard from three people down there is that he simply gets bikes for the look of them and barely rides them, which would make sense when you see a bike that is two years old with only 450 miles on it. Apparently he had one of the retro Triumphs before the SC, rode it even less and "traded" it in on the Duc. Shawn told me today that the guy has now decided that he would rather have a chopper and let this bike go to get his new one. Who knows how legit the story is, but the bike seemed pretty good to me. I am hoping that Will might chime in and cast some more light on the situation.

The thing here is that the SC is probably about 5G less than what they would ask for an 848. And as much as I am probably lying to myself here, I find myself thinking that I could live with the SC as the only bike easier than I could with an 848... Now it would be a different story iif we were talking about a Daytona 675.

Re: Decisions decisions...
Hard to argue with a 5 grand diff.
You think if you rode a 675 and an 848 back to back that you'd give the nod to the 675? I'd like a chance at making that comparison myself, despite the fact that I'm severely biased. :

Re: Decisions decisions...
Well, I know that the 848 would spank the Daytona, but I am simply referring to the fact that the Daytona would probably be an easier bike to live with as a day to day, and single, ride. And no, I would not get rid of the monster for either of those, I would simply bring the monster a sister.

Re: Decisions decisions...
ok, here is the scoop
the bike was the first sport classic in hawaii.
it was special shipped by ducati
i prepped it
myself, the southwest sales rep, went to mathew fox's house to deliver
he and a dude from AP were there
there was a gay little photo shoot
about 100 miles later the bike was brought in
i put on the termi full system, dp ecu, and air box top
he also told me he wanted to trim some of the fat off
so i made the front turn signals shorter
removed reflectors
removed charcoal canister
removed the horns, he didn't like them, but i think we just ordered some to put on
cut the rear fender and metal support
mounted the plate higher
and some other crap i can't remember
later on he ordered the comfort seat, i am not sure if that is on the bike right now.
he rode it alittle, i did one service over the time period
the miles are true
and he put stickers on it :P
we bought the bike, didn't (buy back)
he just wanted to sell it
and that is it
