Really? I don' t know. For my latest mainland adventure, I wound up taking a portable media player, PSP, and phone. I took my laptop really just to check emails, which I wind up doing a lot, and I figured since I had the laptop I'd bring along a DVD to watch on the plane. Man, between the devices and all the related charging needs, my carry-on was heavier than my check-in!
I figure if I had the iPHONE I could get rid of everything (+ the chargers!) but the PSP. I'd have my phone, an mp3 player, a video player, and web access either through the network or wi-fi.
I checked them out yesterday and my concerns were:
storage space---right now the iPHONE has 16 GB max. But that includes everything, not only the media, but your address book, memory for settings, pages, etc. Seems like that would go pretty fast. The apple disciple said that there's nothing in the works yet for a 32 GB iPHONE. Plus, man, I bet that'd be pretty expensive!
battery time---20 hrs music okay, 5 hours video? That's not even 1/2 of the first leg of my flight. Then, if you use the thing on the plane, you might not have juice to make calls when you land!
Carrier---I had AT&T when I lived here before and loved it. I NEVER had a dropped call. I don't mean that figuratively. I mean literally never had a dropped call. However, I switched to verizon on the advice of a friend who travels a lot and I have to say I've never been without coverage. From any city on the mainland out to Guam. When you get used to that kind of performance, it's hard to think about switching.
The sales person said that I could wait until iPHONE is available on other networks, which makes me think that an unlocked phone from apple must be on the way.
