Default iPHONE

hey guys,

do you know anyone with the new iPHONE? I'm wondering how the AT&T coverage is here in O'ahu and on the mainland.

no iphone (ghey!), but I've been an at&t customer for years... no complaints thus far [thumbsup] and that includes all the travel we did for hockey...

I know two people that have them. The phones have lots of features and the people love them but it gets pricey to use.

My wife has AT&T coverage. My opinion is that they suck big time. Nothing but the ultimate bad joke. Whenever I loose customers calls at work I ask them who they have coverage with. You guessed it. Your mileage may vary.

Really? I don' t know. For my latest mainland adventure, I wound up taking a portable media player, PSP, and phone. I took my laptop really just to check emails, which I wind up doing a lot, and I figured since I had the laptop I'd bring along a DVD to watch on the plane. Man, between the devices and all the related charging needs, my carry-on was heavier than my check-in!

I figure if I had the iPHONE I could get rid of everything (+ the chargers!) but the PSP. I'd have my phone, an mp3 player, a video player, and web access either through the network or wi-fi.

I checked them out yesterday and my concerns were:

storage space---right now the iPHONE has 16 GB max. But that includes everything, not only the media, but your address book, memory for settings, pages, etc. Seems like that would go pretty fast. The apple disciple said that there's nothing in the works yet for a 32 GB iPHONE. Plus, man, I bet that'd be pretty expensive!

battery time---20 hrs music okay, 5 hours video? That's not even 1/2 of the first leg of my flight. Then, if you use the thing on the plane, you might not have juice to make calls when you land!

Carrier---I had AT&T when I lived here before and loved it. I NEVER had a dropped call. I don't mean that figuratively. I mean literally never had a dropped call. However, I switched to verizon on the advice of a friend who travels a lot and I have to say I've never been without coverage. From any city on the mainland out to Guam. When you get used to that kind of performance, it's hard to think about switching.

The sales person said that I could wait until iPHONE is available on other networks, which makes me think that an unlocked phone from apple must be on the way.

Man, the crackberry is way too corporate for me. (I'm outta the private sector---for now at least!) In fact, I always thought the Treo was a better option, particularly with the early crackberry models. They were like bricks and to use them you had to use an ear piece. They when they added a built in microphone and speaker it still looked like you were holding a calculator to your face. They must have wonderful IT support because otherwise I don't see how they beat out the palm.

I was actually just going to post that, or a variant thereof. I am all for the iphone, eventually. I predicted they would double the memory at the same price by New Year ( they always have to catch the initial release suckers), and I'm waiting for:

AT LEAST 20 gigs - This is for media only. The other features (address book, etc.) Take up very little space. But if it is to replace the 'pod...

True third party SDK - This is probably a deal breaker, but I'm pretty sure it will happen. Apple has a great backbone for open access development, and this tool begs for it.

Free Handjob and fries. [thumbsup]
