Buying a new Monster, did you get a deal?
Hi!
a friend of mine is currently extremly tempted by the S2R 1000 or maybe the 800. As far as price is concerned, he'd like to know for how low dealers are ready to let them go. If you bought a brand new monster, did you have a good deal on it? Did you negociate? Where did you get it? There's three dealer in Quebec right (Le centre de la moto Vanier, Vanier. Euroteck moto, Arundel. Monette sport, Laval), any comments on them, price wize. Your help in making my friend a well informed buyer is extremly apreciated.
thanks a lot!

Re: Buying a new Monster, did you get a deal?
your friend can get a lower price on any new bike as long as he knows how to negociate.
- don't look too intrested, make them push for a sale, tell them that you are shopping aroun a lot
- don't buy anything before the third visit at least
- wait for them to ask for your phone number and once they call you know you're on your way to a better price
- when you agree to sit down for a price, don't smile and look too eager. make them sweat and wonder why they're not getting a big grin out of you.
- once they make the first offer, say you'll think about it, get up and leave. make them beg... they all do.
i'm no expert but this seems to have worked in my favor for the last few bikes, cars and condo i have bought.
at Monette Sports they seem to have the attitude that discourages people to act this strategy out from the start but, so far, i know three people who have used it right. two of them being members of this club.
also, tell your friend that he is welcome to join the next club meeting on July 4th if he wants to discuss some of that and the bikes [thumbsup]

Re: Buying a new Monster, did you get a deal?
Cool, thanks for this info. Indeed, negociation is an art! Also, it's very valuable to have an approximation, in advance, of how low a dealer can go, if possible.
Here's the price my friend had last week at Monette Sport:
Monster 2006
Dark: 9995$
620: 10495$
S2R
Dark: 11995$
800: 13200$
1000: 14500$
Do you think they can let them go for lower then that? Do you have concret example? An approximation or a %?
thanks you very much!

at the very least you can get 500 off. 1000 if you can hold your own and possibly 1500 if you're good AND hit them on a day where that salesman has already sold two bikes.

Re: Buying a new Monster, did you get a deal?
Cool. Thanks everyone for the info!!
In conclusion, my friend finally bought an SR2 1000 for 13000$ at "Le centre de la moto Vanier" in Quebec today (1500$ off the first price he got, as you mentioned StarChild). He's gonna pick it up tomorrow morning. Thanks again on behalf of my friend who will most probably join this board pretty soon.

guys if you want,
i have a contact across the border, saved me thousands,
it just takes a little time,
compared to what the dealers are charging here, its worth the wait.
