Wow, it sure is dead here in Nor*Cal - What's up?
It's not as cold as the East and they have tons of posts, what's the deal?
Well, anyhow, I'd like to get to know you folks. I'm Chris and I'm over here in Citrus Heights. I've been in love with Ducatis forever, but recently fell for the Monsters. My 12YO has liked them for a long time and I just didn't see the appeal, but after sitting on one at the dealer, well, I'm hooked. As a-matter-of-fact I'm opening a used moto shop specializing in Monsters, due to my newfound love.
I've been building bikes and cars for 20+ years and I'm ready to focus on this new project and leave the imports behind. Besides I'm getting too old and injured to ride sportbikes any longer, part of the reason I ended up on a monster. I've built a handful of super nice GSXRs, but it's not worth putting all that time into a project tha I can't even ride around the block without being in pain.
I'm married with two children 12 JP and 8 Kayla. I have a new addition, Nathan coming in April and I'm really excited. Luckily the wife isn't making me get rid of any of my bikes, but she's letting hers go and it sure is pretty. Too bad, she probably won't ride again. Anyway, both my kids race motocross and I build their little rockets from scratch. I'm good at making something out of, "not much". Budget beauties. My son's KX85 would've cost the normal Joe/Jane Thousands, but I scraped it together for less than $2k and it's a serious winner. My daughter raced the 50cc class, for too long, on a super fast LEM R3 (they build a bunch of Ducati parts). She's finally moving up to the 65 class, but having trouble shifting. I built her bike on a budget too and it looks like a million bucks.
Well, that's enough about me for now. Hope you folks chime in and let me know about you. I'd love to meet up and get to know you all. I'm not down for any rides too soon, way too cold for me. Though, I would like to make some mutual contacts for the future.
Actually, there's a big BBQ deal going on in Reno this weekend. If any of you are heading up let me know...
Chris

Yeah, it's dead in here...thanks for noticing =P
Anyway, welcome again, Chris!
There will be a little more activity when the weather heats up. I'm going to try to organize a foothill rally this year...we'll see who bites from the DML. And what do you mean your wife will probably not ride anymore?!?!?
If you're poor tired bod is that ruined, well you stay home with the kids and S2RGRL and I will take wifey out for a spin. Looks like we might have a few more ladies in our possee this season too, so you better not get rid of her gear.
BTW...I'll get you some pics of those spoked rims soon. And thanks for the invite to Reno, but I'm going snowshoeing this weekend. Schnoo-schnoo!

Well, she didn't really want to ride anyhow, she's scared. She loved to ride with me, but now with all the kids it's gonna be tough. Hopefully with you folks, (I say it like there's a bunch of people responding), getting things together she'll get a sitter and we can go for some nice group rides.
I need to hurry up and figure out what I'm going to do for a bike. I keep selling all my parts, but at some point I'm gonna have to figure out what I want to build and start making it happen. I change my mind every other day.
Anyhow, thanks for the reply, we'll meet soon. I would love for my wife to be able to get involved too. So it'll be nice having some females out there.
Chris

welcome chris.,
Once it starts getting warmer more people will thaw out and come on here. Well.... with some persuading, this is a slow sub forum.
I know I am dieing to ride but it is still a little too wet for my taste. I actually did get out today and rode to work. I know I was starting to have withdrawals but I should be good a little while longer now. :P

I'm a big wimp too. I've gone around the block a few times, but that's it.

Howdy and welcome. People seem to come and go all the time on this forum (myself included), but I try to make an effort to check every so often to see what's going on. From the looks of it not much, but hey, I admit I'm mostly a fair weather rider too. The cold I can do because I bundle up and use a balaclava underneath my helmet, but the rain = hells no. Too many idiots out on the road when it's rainy, plus i've had my rear wheel slip a couple times which scared the crap out of me. I am starting to get withdrawals though...

I was out in the rain on Sunday doing donuts and screwing around for my kids. That's as much as I'll ride in the rain. I can't handle getting soaked like you do when it rains. The water seeps in however it can, not for me. I was in SF today and there were bikes everywhere, in the rain. Unbelievable!

Re: Wow, it sure is dead here in Nor*Cal - What's up?
Chris,
Welcome and thanks for posting up. My two little ones are a bit younger, but I also have a couple future riders [thumbsup]. My son, the elder of the two, turns tail when I start up the bike, but my daughter seems to get a spark in her eye when she hears it.
I have a short commute and if the weather is holding up, I'll ride into work, but my cheap rain-gear hasn't been broken out since my trip from Denver to Portland to Glacier and back. I'm even a bit curious if it wouldn't simply disintegrate if I tried to unfold it. Anyway, I love to enjoy riding, but unless it's a 'Geist night (my one and only) and I have a chance to wear my winter parka over my gear, getting soaked isn't quite worth it to me either.
Anyway - I look forward to a ride and seeing some of your creations soon.
Take Care,
Mike

Re: Wow, it sure is dead here in Nor*Cal - What's up?
I'm rode on Saturday for about an hour. I live in the foothills, so it's always easy to get out. I'm up for a longer ride as soon as it stops raining.

Re: Wow, it sure is dead here in Nor*Cal - What's up?
It really sucks, because the last two days that were clear...we were working. :-[ I would've loved to take the wife's bike out for a while.
I currently don't have my own bike. I think I've decided on a motor, at least. Fuel injected 750 w/620 heads and a open/dry clutch. That's as far as I've gotten. I don't even have that yet LOL. My biz partner (juggalo1088), has already gotten farther than me. He actually knows what he wants/has a plan and has tons of parts for it. I keep changing my mind. Let's see, it's Feb.? I still have two months, wow, I don't know if I'll have a bike that soon. Maybe I'll use a loaner.
