Re: Mystery of the clutch...
Yea to every thing stated above.
You can just pull the cover off to see what it looks like. All the cover is doing is protecting the clutch plate incase of a fall. So if you get a new cover you may want one that actually protects. I have a 1/2 carbon fiber one on now and my clutch would be in serious bad shape in case of a fall on the right side. (knock on wood)
Personally I dont think there is any advantage to any of the plates. It basically comes down to what look you like the best. As far as I have read there is no performace aspect of the clutch plate. (please correct me if I am wrong here). I do think speedymoto makes the best looking stuff but they do charge a bunch.
One thing I have done so far was to get red springs from speedy. The stainless is much nicer and cut back on the squeakyness created by rust on the factory springs.
As far as painting... I looked into doing that a while back. As far as I read the best way to do it was to pull it off, clean it and powder coat. I would guess even some high temp spray paint may do the trick for some time. I have a feeling it would flake off after a while though.
I have had a set up picked out from speedymoto for a while... just cant justify spending 500 bucks for just good looks. But it would look soooo money! ;D
