Default StateFarm vs Geico

State Farm tried to raise my rates even though a ticket dropped off this year. They wanted $775 / yr for my 1098. Progressive wanted $1835 / yr. Geico: $439 / yr....

I now have Geico insurance... If your record's pretty clean, check 'em out. It may be well worth your time!

In my experience, State Farm is almost always higher than Geico, unless you also have an auto/truck insured with them as well, in which case SF is comparable to Geico. I've also found claims to be much less hassle through SF, so if you have a cage also there's good reason to stay with SF.

State Farm is excellent, at least with cars. Both of my last two cars were totalled out, one my fault, the other not. Anyways went through my insurance for both and I got more than what I paid both times. Wrangler by 2500, Grand Cherokee 1200. Totalled one on other insurance and got completely screwed.

I just switched to SF. I love it so far. I riased my coverage to 300,000.00 and I am paying a third of what progressive cost. I have a personal issue with geico.

I have State Farm as well...$380/year. Progressive and Geico wanted 3-4 times what I pay for the same insurance with State Farm.

Statefarm won't even insure me because I had a citation for expired registration on my car a year ago. :'( (Unpaid parking ticket) Neither will Nationwide. Progressive is the cheapest for me.

After more than a dozen years, I recently switched from GEICO to SF, as they're the only insurer I could find who would provide coverage for home, bike, personal liability & 2 cars at competitive rates. Previously, I had the cars with GEICO, home with Allstate, and bike with Foremost. Even adding 1 mil in personal liability, the rates were lower (by a few hundred bucks) than what GEICO was offering without p.l. One of the agents I spoke with allowed that GEICO doesn't really like insuring bikes, but they do it to keep their primary business lines open. Mind your deductibles and limits of liability when making the decision as well; some companies will sound like they're welcoming you with open arms, but when you read the fine print, they're either severely limiting their exposure (by increasing yours) or requiring that youpay for coverage that you don't really need. No affiliation, but I went with Ginger L Gray, a SF agent in Fairfax. No claims yet (thankfully), but the customer service has been top notch.
