Hesitation?
At first I thought it was bad gas but after few fill ups the hesitation is more and more. During acceleration it will pause or hesitate and then jolt. Either it isn't receiving enough air or fuel or a combination of both. I know on my Suzuki it use to hesitate because the plugs would foul every now and then. Solved that problem by installing Iridium plugs. Any thoughts? I guess I could use that little tool under the seat to take out the plugs and give them a look. Also, anyone ever figure out how you hook your helmet under the seat. I went through the manual and it says there is a helmet attachment under the seat. I looked and it is a rubber coated wire that is looped on both ends that you need to connect to something? :-\
Thanks for the help! [thumbsup]

Re: Hesitation?
It's an '08 -- why not let the dealer figure it out under warranty? Maybe an O2 sensor failure, TPS failure, etc. Stuff I never learned about.
With respect, buy a bike with carbs and breaker points, if you want to do your own tuning/troubleshooting. Otherwise these glitches are better left to the dealer. The other side of this is that performance and reliability are way better than in the old days.

You're right. My carbed Suzuki is so nice to fix and troubleshoot. Looks like I'll either take the 2 hour ride out to Winchester before 3 tomorrow or have it gone for three weeks at Colemans. To think I thought I would just be able to ride if I bought new. :
Thanks. [thumbsup]

Re: Hesitation?
Many owners experience what you describe probably an o2 sensor or another sensor. I would take it to the dealer like Odd Duc said and have them figure it out. I wouldn't wrench on a bike still under warranty especially when it may turn out to be a warranty claim. As for the cable it is meant to hook to the helmet and then the two loops go on the pin that holds the seat. I got rid of mine it was more trouble than what it was worth IMO. I just carry the helmet or hang it on the mirror.

Re: Hesitation?
Ugh. So I called both Colemans and DucPond. Colemans said it would take a week to get to and DucPond said it would take two weeks to get to. I may be a sucker for punishment but looks like I'll be bringing it in to Colemans next week. In other words...
Ah life...

Mistake IMHO, BTW have you had a 600 mile service yet? Better to bite the bullet now rather than wait until the real riding season is here. Funny attittude though, brand new bike is not running right and you have to leave it for a week at the dealership where you bought it? Bike was probably set-up wrong. Glad I did not have that experience on my 3 Ducatis, I would be riding another brand. Whe you do drop it off, tell them you wnat to know in very specific terms what was wrong and then let DNA know what happenend. - Gene

I'm just trying to stay light hearted about it because otherwise I'd like to ghost ride it off the Woodrow Wilson. I already had my 600 service awhile ago with a $1500 repair to the bike since then. Right now I am at ~1,200 miles. As far as ownership experience this has been the worst. I even rode my '90 GS recently because I wanted a reliable & fun ride. But you are right my dreams of what owning a Duc would be like are so far dashed. Except for the proverbial, "Wow is that yours? Nice!" comments there hasn't been much fun to the whole experience. I kick myself for not going the SV650 route by staying with what I knew, Suzuki. My other riding friends like to give me the "Whoa. You mean it's not in the shop again?" every time we go out. However, I'm sure Ducati is a fine brand and I'm not trying to bash it but I guess they don't put too much into this "budget" bike. I'll take your advice though and find out exactly what is wrong this time. Once little thing that bothers me but seems to sum up the entire enchilada is that the "Monster 695" decals can't even stay glued on. Came back from a ride one time and they were gone seemly blown off while riding. My GS still has its and it is 18 years old!
Thanks for letting me rant, I feel a little better 'bout it now.

Re: Hesitation?
What was the repair that cost $1,500?? You experience is totally out of whack wtih everyone I know, including myself. My 02' Monster 900 which I bought as a leftover in 04' has 26,000 miles on it, the only two issues I've had is the dash had to be replaced, taken care of under warranty and the Cycle Cat rear sets were not properly installed by a local repair shop, causing the rear brake lever stop to back out and lock up the rear brake, simple fix done on the side of the road, added a locknut - which was in the box of parts, but left off by the repair shop. I have 25,000 miles on my ST3, there was an ECU recall when new and the dash both fixed under warranty. At 24K, I had to replace the steering head bearings. And on my 06' S2R1000 I have done 13 track days and about 4,500 miles and had no issues. Other than that it has been normal maintenance. I want to hear more about your bike and I hope othes with your model will also talk about their experience, something does not sound right. - Gene

Re: Hesitation?
Are you running the stock exhaust, or did you put an aftermarket pipe on there? The 07-08 1000 (yours is an 695, no?) ECU is set up for Euro 3 emissions and is REALLY lean, and I assume all models are the same. This causes popping on the decel, snatchiness when on/off the throttle and (for some, not me) backfiring. I didn't have an issue until I put a midpipe on there and then the problems manifested.
To test it, disconnect the O2 sensor. This will cause the engine light to go on but will also cause the ECU to go into a 'canned map' mode, which is richer than normal running. If it gets smoother then there you are. It's a total hack but if it works...
I would also zero out the ECU by disconnecting the battery for an hour and turning the bike on/off 2 or 3 times in that state to be sure it's 'forgot' it's learned map.
As you've already pointed out, a look-see at the plugs at this point would be a good idea.
If you want any help with this you can swing by my place if you're near down-town Silver Spring.

Re: Hesitation?
The fastest way to tell if you're running lean is to look at your plugs. If they are white and possibly pitted, you're running lean. Black means too rich. They should be a nice golden tawny color.
