Default patch on the mesh jacket
Question: how do you sew the patch on the mesh jacket?

I wouldn't JUST use a hot glue gun if you want to keep the patches at speeds.

If you put a piece of material, ie. felt, etc. on the inside of the jacket, you can sew the patch on the outside.

The hot gluegun will be fine. Just put the jacket on a flat surface with some wax paper on the inside before you do it...
