FYI, from the City of Phoenix website (http://phoenix.gov/PARKS/hikesoth.html) :

Silent Sunday will return each month in 2008!! On Silent Sundays, bicyclists, tots in strollers, in-line skaters and wheelchair users get to call the Park's roadways their own. Starting at 5 a.m. the park's roadways past the Central Avenue gate* will be reserved for non-motorized use. 2008 Dates: Jan. 13, Feb. 24, March 30, April 27, May 25, June 22, July 27, Aug. 24, Sept. 28, Oct. 26, Nov. 23 and Dec. 28

Isn't that what the trails, green belts, parks, bridle paths, etc., are for? And don't we, the motorists, pay a crapload of VLT and/or other taxes for the privilege of using the streets -- including the ones in the Phoenix municipal park?

Hey, whay don't we have "Car Day" at Sky Harbor once a month where we just get to drive up and down the runways without those pesky planes bothering us?!

Plus, I'd love to see a "motorized vehicles only" day on Phoenix streets... get rid of all those idiot bicyclists that ride against traffic -- not to mention all the pedestrians who have no concept that just because they're perfectly happy using crosswalk at 1/2 MPH doesn't mean that rest of us wouldn't like to go ahead and turn, not to mention the 1/4 mile back-up behind us waiting to do the same thing!! Aaargh!!
