Default RIDE: Bikers Soar For Wildlife (02/17/08)

3rd Annual Bikers Soar For Wildlife
February 17, 2008

Start: Steel Horse Saloon
1818 West Bell Road
Phoenix, AZ 85023
9:00am
Duration: 120 miles
  • This event is being hosted by the Adobe Mountain Wildlife Center Auxiliary, a 501-C3 nonprofit organization. They are the volunteers who work at the Center and assist us in a variety of ways.
  • All donations are tax-deductible. Receipts will be available.
  • We want all individual riders, groups, clubs, etc. to attend. This event is as much an opportunity to educate the public about native wildlife as it is for them to ride in support of it.
  • The ride will start at Steel Horse Saloon and is approximately 120 miles long if you ride the suggested route from one stop to the next, beginning to end. We worked hard on trying to keep riders close to town while attempting to provide some wonderful Sonoran Desert scenery.
  • Sign up early and receive a t-shirt with your registration fee. Only the first 300 riders will receive a t-shirt and ride pin with their registration. By signing up early you can save money!! Pre-registration is $20 per rider and $30 for rider and passenger until February 1. After February 1, 2008 the price goes up to $25 per rider and $35 for rider and passenger.
  • Lunch (included in registration) will be the choice of a hamburger or pulled BBQ pork, cowboy beans, cole slaw and chips.
  • There will be separate lines for pre-registration and day of registration.
  • Registration starts at 8:00 and goes until 9:30. (We'll sign you up until everyone is included) Our goal is to send the last riders off no later than 10:00 a.m.
  • Each rider and passenger will receive a ride card at registration that will have a map and directions to each stop. There is a time frame that you must arrive at each location in order to get your poker hand. (This way we won't have people staggered out for hours.
  • We will have a drag rider (truck towing a trailer) in the event a bike breaks down. The drag rider will also have a basic first-aid kit available. There will be a "help" number on the ride card to call if you need any of these services. However, in the event of an emergency, leave it to the professionals, please call 911.
  • Beverages will be available at each ride stop.
  • Prizes will be onsite for riders/passengers to view at registration and again at the end.
  • CTS is the band you'll be hearing this year. They are scheduled to play from Noon to 4:00 p.m.
  • A large animal display will be onsite at the end of the ride so everyone can learn more about the animals they are riding for.
  • For those riders who have family and/or friends that want to meet up with them and enjoy the day at Pioneer, lunch tickets will be available for purchase at the beginning of the ride for $7.00.
  • One of the most beautiful views will be the last stop at Visitor's Center overlooking Maricopa County's Lake Pleasant. As a sponsor of the ride, the entrance fee for riders will be waived, although you will need to stay on the specified route.
  • If you're knotted up and "kneeding" a massage, they'll be available for $1 per minute. All proceeds go to the Wildlife Center.
  • Photos of last year's ride will be on display at Pioneer for everyone to see. Don't be camera shy, you may find yourself on next year's display!

Default Re: RIDE: Bikers Soar For Wildlife (02/17/08)

It was a great ride Sunday. A little cold at first but great some noon. The ride was great, very well planned out. And an excellent BBQ at the end (at Pioneer Village). It was a huge turn out and looked to be very successful for the charity. I got 228 miles for the day (three tanks of gas in the HyperMotard)...

I counted:[*]1 Ducati (my lonely dry clutch was no match for all the open pipes)[*]6 Kawasaki's[*]14 BMW's[*]22 Honda's[*]250+ Harley's

Here's some photo's from the ride...
