Default Alternative to spend $700 for a Steering Damper?

It looks like I can get used dampers in the classifieds and ebay for under a $100. Or even a takeoff part ohlins or gubellini for a couple $$$.

But where do I get the brackets? Does the dealer sell them separately?
Does everyone actually spend over $500?

I would think there would be another option...
I appreciate the help,

Thanks

BTW - I have a 2011 796

What kind of damper? Side, top, or bottom?

I had an ohlins side mount for my 696... I was able to get a new fork bracket for about $20 on ebay...

Top mounts cost more, due to additional design and material considerations. I searched high and low for one, but in the end had it custom made because there wasn't one. Search for custom Ohlins damper and see what I did a while back.

The side mounts will be cheaper by a lot if you want that type of setup, you just need a damper with additional throw.

Either case, you can buy a used damper but the good ones are still $$$. In contrast a new Ohlins generic without mount would be around $300, not too bad for new. If you can get a mount made for the top cheap, you'll be well under $500.

Yes, I did spend over $500, but only by a little to get the final product as I wanted. All the ones at retail seem to be way over $500, including the ridiculously priced OEM ver.
