New owner and new to the forum, looking for seasoned insights. I want to install a set of Termi slip ons on my 2011 796 ABS myself and wondering what to watch out for. I have a good idea how to get the tank off etc., just want to learn from other's mistakes before I tackle the job, especially with the ECU. Not sure exactly what is meant my "remapping", does that refer to simply plugging the new ECU unit in, or is it something you have to hook up to a computer and fine tune after install etc.? Does it need to be done at the dealer? Will it need to be done while the bike is apart, or will I be able to take it to the dealer if I get it back together and it doesn't operate properly? Sorry for all the questions, but I've read a few horror stories on this and other forums. Or should I just can it and have the dealer do it?? Thanks all!
I am doing the same this week, but with the 1100. From all the threads I've read here and there, and two conversations with dealers/parts vendors the install process with the ECU is plug and play. That's also true with the airbox and the actual pipes, so I'm not worried.
Worst case, the bike doesn't turn on and you just put back the OE ECU and take it to the dealer to sort out. At least, thats what I am hoping for .
Hmm. I called a few dealers today, they all encouraged me to let them do the install (of course) but also said that if I insist on doing it myself to bring it to a dealer afterward for the remapping I was asking about. Apparently it does need to be hooked up to a dealer computer of some kind to be fine tuned to make the most of the pipes, otherwise it will run really lean if you just plug and play. The throttle will need to be adjusted so it idles properly, otherwise it will/could stall a lot. I figure I'll do the same as you, just put it together and then sort out the fine tune at the dealer's afterward if it needs it. Thanks for the input!
Your manual shows how to remove Your tank - Look under "Removal of battery"
I did the job without removing the tank completely.
Therefore I didn't have to drain the tank etc.
Then change the ECU - Remember to disconnect the battery before.
Change the airfilter and airfiltertop.
Connect battery.
Change the slip-ons.
I might take some time get both pipes aligned at the rear.
It's a common problem ???
The big different appears when You get rid of the DBkillers ;D
OK here is a heads up for anyone installing Termi exhaust for the first time...
1. Install of the slipon exhaust is very easy, dont pay the dealership to do it.
2. Installing the ECU is easy, its just unplug old and plug in new ECU. The mapping is the A/F adjustment that is made for the high-flow filter/exhaust setup that comes with the exhaust system(so bike runs better and is not running lean). NOTHING needs to be done by dealership as far as programming and making adjustments on the bike. This is already done inside the new ECU.
3. NEVER NEVER NEVER and I say again NEVER! Have the dealership adjust the throttle, or throttle positioning sensor! This is a way for them to make an hour of pay for 5 seconds of work. To reset the TPS, turn the key to the bike on, as the bike starts up(hear the fuel pump engage, and text on screen scrolls) turn off the bike. Then repeat this three times. So, bike turn key into on position, bike scrolls text and pump engages, turn key off, and then turn key back on again quickly. Do this three times and the TPS should rest.
The reason why Termignoni exhaust is the "best selling" exhaust for ducati's is because Termi and Ducati are in bed together. Hence why you can ONLY get the Ducati Performance ECU with Termi exhaust system, and why Termi exhaust is the only recommended exhaust that will not void warranty. If you wanted to buy the DP ECU solo, it would cost as much as the entire exhaust system. They do this so you are encouraged to buy the Termi system...
However, now that the bike has been out for awhile, there are other options to map your bike to run better than the termi system.
mega thread bump here, but I just installed a set of termis on my 2013 796. The ECU that was sent was an EU ECU, is this correct? The only issue I've got is that all of my readings are now in kilometers, not miles.
Hold your toggle switch (up arrow, as in where you scroll through modes [odometer, clock, etc] when the monster is engaged) in the up position for about 10 seconds and then turn the key to the right. You'll see stuff on the instrument panel pop up, just flip it from EU to USA now. It'll list out all the countries, etc. Turn it on from there once you confirm and boom. Done. Remember to reset your TPS at your local shop once you're all done. Mine did it for free.
How do I reset the tps sensor on my 2014 Ducati monster. I replace the exhaust, the ECU and the air filter. The bike won't run idle. I tried to turn the key on (let the text scroll and pumps engage). Did three times. But the bike is still struggling to run idle. Am I doing something wrong. I really don't want to bring the bike to the dealer ship so that they can charge me a 125 dollar for 10 min of work. Please help!
Self-adaptation of the throttle position sensor (TPS)
The linear throttle position sensor is mounted on the throttle body and cannot be adjusted. It is therefore necessary to teach the ECU the angle corresponding to the zero position of the position sensor itself, as follows.
I am having the exact same problem on my 2014 Ducati Monster. I recently had Termi's installed with full pipe, air filter, ECU with Flash, the works. But now, I have trouble when the bike is in idle RPM's. What did you do to fix your issue?
This is by far the best thread. I had my 2014 896 and with a sets of titanium termis and when switch on, it's says 796 abs dp. But when the bike is cold, it didn't idle...It died ....And I can't throttle and off throttle too fast, it will died
Hi all!
I'm new to the forums thus I can't start a new tread, so I'll post here as it is related...
I own a 2011 Monster 796 non ABS and I can get a decent deal on pre-owned full Termignoni carbon exhaust with ecu wich is for ABS equiped bike...the big question is will it work with my non-ABS monster?
Thanks!
