Default Rizoma grips help....

Gentlemen and Ladies, I seek the benefit of your combined wisdom to help me resolve a tiny problemo. I'm the delighted owner of a set of Rizoma billet grips and matching bar-ends - see pics. My little issue is this: The Rizoma grips are slightly shorter than the originals, so that when the new Rizoma throttle tube is mated up to the original alloy throttle casing there's an 8mm gap between the outer end of the new grip and the new bar ends, not a pretty thing. Solutions as I see it are these:

1) drill a new hole in the bars 8mm further outboard to accomodate the alloy throttle casing's integral locating pin.
2) file off the alloy casing's locating pin so that I can mount the throttle assembly anywhere along the bar that suits (problem is that the throttle assy is then no longer positively located on the bars, and once done cannot be reversed).
3) cut 8mm off the end of the handlebar (seems a bit crude/drastic).

I'm unsure as to what the best solution is............

All constructive suggestions gratefully received

I wouldn't file off the pin. Like you said it can't be undone and neither can chopping off the ends. I would drill the hole. Then at least if you change your mind down the road you have the option.

Moving the hole is your easiest option.

Whatever you do, don't cut the handlebars down. It amazes me how many people have cut their handlebars shorter.

It seems to me that cutting 8 mm off the bars, IS NOT very drastic to get rid of the gap ...

But that's just me !

Why not cut the bars Dave? (Other than the thought of doing so makes me feel like a vandal).

my only real concern about cutting the bars is what if you want to return the bike to stock??

say you try the rizomas and don't like them. if you cut the bars, would you then drill a
new hole further in on the bars to fit the original grips? if you're going get your drill out
later, might as well just drill a new hole now.

i really don't think that cutting the bars is too drastic of a change. i'm just tired of buying
stuff and it just doesn't fit right. I don't like having to modify my bike just to install a pair
of grips. they should fit from the start.

just my $.02

later.

Just my .02

I would leave the gap it still looks good. If you cut the bars, two problems exist. First, you cant go back to stock. Second, you change your mirror location in relation to your view. It sucks to do something you regret later. Third option buy another set of handlebars so then you can at least go back to stock. Awesome looking bike by the way.
