Thumbs up 4G's to spend on upgrades..help!

I have a 2000 750 Monster with all original parts. I love it how it is, but as always you want to supe it up some. So I have 4k to spend on upgrades to the iron horse. this is my first ducati as I have always had either honda or kawasaki. Looking to hear what you guys could suggest as far as upgrades. I can install slip ons on my own, as i have done it for my past 4 bikes. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If I dont respond, I am currently deployed so my connection speed is rather slow. Thanks .

Well, the first question would probably be....what about the bike would you like to change?

But...i'll take a run at it.
1. Dymag carbon/magnesium wheels on clearance for $1800 at oncycles.com
light wheels RULE

2.If you are looking for more power...dropping a 900 motor in is prob the most hp for the least $
If you want to upgrade your existing motor....i would do coils and 39mm flatslide carbs from ca-cycleworks, high-comp pistons, and a light flywheel

3. Exhaust. This makes the bike a lot more fun...even if it doesnt give a shot of power.
there are lots of options avail, based on what you like the looks of.

Holy smokes Jeff, I got you on 1 and 3, but 2 I'm going to need some tutorials. if i was to change the motor to a 900, are there compaines that would buy my 750 motor? I dont have a garage so I wouldnt even know where to put another motor. i live 2 blocks away from a ducati dealer, so i could get more info, but you seem to know whats going on with a motor change. i do like that idea. thanks.

The first question are you able to do the work yourself?

I would do something similar as what has been said but I would go about spending your money this way.

Forged Aluminum rims, cost less and you still have the benefits of less weight.

Replace your forks with new cartridges or if you have forks that can't be upgraded get forks that can be upgraded and upgrade them.

Get a new rear shock.

Get a full exhaust, 39mm flatslide carbs, and high-comp pistons.

Replace you chain with a 520 pitch chain, front and rear 520 pitch sprocket. Rear sprockets come in many different sizes (37 up t0 42 would work), front sprockets come in 14 and 15. I would buy a 14, and 15 520 front sprockets. One rear 39 tooth 520 pitch sprocket. Doing this will give you some adjustability with your gearing. Cut your chain to fit the 15, 39 setup, this will allow you to use both 14 and 15 front sprockets.

If you do all the work yourself you may have enough money left to get yourself some gear so you can ride safe on that new bike of yours.

I havent found dealers to be much help with upgrade advice (other than the Ducati Performance catalog items)

on the motor swap....any motors of the same generation is a pretty straightforward swap.
94-01 carbed bikes (on the 900 motor that would be 94-99 monsters and supersports)
there are a couple places that buy/sell parts that would be the best source for the new motor and to buy your 750
Chris MotoredSport- 916-628-0963
Stuart- Flightcycles.com

or take your 4k and whatever you can sell your 750 for and buy a used 900 or 1000
less work that way

I'll bite:

- Heated grips, unless you live in Phoenix
- Stebel horn
- LED taillight with matching helmet strip
- Custom, leather saddle
- Power accessory port
- Upgraded suspension
- Good rubber
- RAM mount for GPS
- Fender eliminator

...and Superbike school so you can wring everything out of that motor.

Determine what you what out of the bike before you start on the "modification" journey. Match your budget to the goals and see if it makes sense financially. Sometimes it is easier to just trade it for another bike- and build another one.

There are some features that you can't buy off the shelf like custom fit, ultra light weight components, custom appearance...figure out what is important to you before you start.

I've seen people over the years build bikes and cars that were just un- ridable or driveable because of extreme mods. I've also seen mods that are not compatible and actually make the bike worse than it was before they start.

Do the suspension and pipes. Use the leftover money to buy a track bike.
