Default DP ECU Installation

I have read for hours on the DP "Racing" ECU topic, but cannot find anything to tell me if it is possible to install yourself. So does anyone know if you must have the dealer install the DP ECU upgrade?

Thank you for your help.

Mark

You can do this yourself if you have the VDST or the DTS

1) Lift up the gas tank and prop it up
2) Disconnect the battery
3) Unclip the connections to the ECU
4) unscrew the 2 ECU mounting screws (allen screws beneath) and remove the ECU (note how it was mounted and just mount the DP ECU the same way)
5) mount the DP ECU, secure the screws
6) reattach ECU connections
7) reconnect the battery
8) reset the TPS (w/ a VDST if you have one...otherwise you'll need the shop to do it)
9) synch the throttle bodies w/ a Carbtune or similar
10) test drive
11) adjust trim (likely up it by 2-3 points from stock but depends on where the shop set it) and air bypass screws to optimize a/f ratio (ideally a CO analyzer will do this faster. If you have one, recommendations seem to be either 5 or 6%)

To sum up:
1) You'll need a VDST (to reset the TPS and adjust trim) - approx $190 from Technoresearch
2) Carb synch tool - approx $100+, can't remember exact cost.
3) screwdriver (for air bypass screws) and allen wrenches (for the ECU mounting screws and the screws in the manifold for checking the throttle synch)
4) A CO analyzer (ideal but not completely necessary if you can read plugs. just play with the trim and air bypass screws)

Note: If you want to permanently mate the DP ECU to your bike you can. Otherwise don't, so you can sell it for use on another bike if you need to.

Good luck

oh, and don't forget to disconnect the lambda sensor from your cat and the bike wiring before starting your bike
