4.50X17 Wheel - 180 tire?

I've heard mixed responses on this issue.

I have a 2001 M750 Metallic with a 4.50X17 stock wheel. I have a Michelin Power Pilot 180. Has anyone does this? will it work?

Any advice would be great!

It will work, but it's not designed to. The 180's are stock on 5.5" rims. It will pinch the tire and give it a taller profile...

i wouldn't put anything bigger than a 170 on a 4.5

Of course, I won't put anything bigger than a 170 on my 5.5.

put a 160 on
better handling, lighter and more than enough for the power of a 750

I once put a 170 on a 750ss with the same wheel, and the handling sucked!!!
it looked all wrong too with near vertical tyre edge and all...
just don't do it

I put a the same tire on mine but needed a 5.5 wheel. It squeezes the tire on 4.5 you'll risk it folding in a turn. find a used 5.5 on here cheap.

but yes do it as a cosmetic mod, not proformace. It looks sick but will roll slower into turns. (less flick) it does make the bike real stable.

It'll work, but I've never heard of a performance gain. I assume that you want a wider look & by squeezing it onto the 4.5" rim, it's not going to look very wide either.

Thank you for all the advice everyone! I decided to buy a 5.5 when I find one cheap. I can't help it. My friend Billy let me ride his m900 the other day with the 180 and I loved it.

oh i forgot to mention the power pilots are a little wide so the chain will rub on the lip of the tire for a hundred miles or so. it wont be a problem. i just lubbed the chain a little more frequently. Its fine now.

i think i have a pic.....yup here ya go

If you want the wide look, try a 160 Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier. It's the widest profile of any tire I've seen and I love the performance. IMO great tires (but I've always liked Dunlops). It looks like a 170 and works without any problems on the 4.5 rim.
