A motor swap is what I really want but it seems almost impossible since there are no 900 motors for sale in where I live. Is a big bore kit going to give significant improvement or is it just gonna be a waste of funds? I'm talking about the DP kit by the way..
Hi.I have too a M600 and some time ago i was wondering the same thing...You must change many things after installing the kit like exausts.
You'll get something like 5CV more using this kit.
Everybody told me that it isn't worth doing it..as the other guys told you.
Probably the best solution is to buy a new bike but as you said you like the one you have.(me too).
The other way is to get a used block of engine ..but then you have to change everything, flywheels, electrical system,etc...
The good news is that you can pick any engine block of monster till S4R..fits on frame 600cc.
Try on ebay or http://www.woundedduc.net/home.html.
or maybe on www.ducatimonsterclub.it/forum (in italian)
I let that kit pass by but decided to do this mod and I'm still looking around for a similar kit. There is a guy selling 2 cylinders and 2 pistons only from this kit and the price is reasonable (at the moment at least). I already have cored pipes. I can add an oil filter and open airbox, no big deal. My concern is, there was a part called "variable control unit" in the original kit. If I buy the cylinders and pistons, am I going to need this part ?
that's just the dp name for ignition control boxes with a different advance curve. they're not variable. generally they have around 2 degrees less max advance than std and the same at idle.
altho, i have a pair of both 900 and 600/750 dp boxes, and the 900 ones had maybe not quite 2 degree less max advance, but had 2 or so degrees more at idle than std boxes. the 600 ones had less max advance again - a degree or so - and the same as the 900 at idle. idle timing with the dp boxes was somewhat erratic tho - moving between 6 and 8 or 9 degrees, whereas it was spot on 6 with the std boxes. i'm planning on marking a flywheel better so i can see what each box gives more accurately.
retarding your pickups a few degrees has a similar effect. or retard the cams a few degrees - might help the top end too. when i advanced my 600 cams from 114 inlet centerline to 107 it was definitely rougher at low rpm on std fuel, fine on premium. but the 600 does have a lot of comp std.
IMO,Save or whatever and buy a bigger bike and then get the kit for it. >
