I just looked at a picture of the midpipe from desmo's site again. So, the rear cylinder has a short stubby header that I don't have to take out, and the new midpipe just attaches to this oem short stubby header. the front cylinder, however, has the oem stubby header that I need to take out, and replace with the stubby header that comes with the new midpipe. Is this correct?

thanks.

Correct. There is a short stubby header on the rear because you can't it through the swingarm from the bottom. The short stubby header drops in from the top and bolts to the rear cylinder. Then you slide the midpipe up from the bottom and clamp it together. You don't need to remove the rear stubby header.

The system comes with a front stubby header because the midpipe with the cat is all one piece. When you take it off the bike there is no stubby header. So they give you one for the front. The rear one stays in place.

Hey everyone,

I was going to get a DP header, but based mainly on MikeB's recommendation I got the Spark/Desmoworld hearder instead. It is everything MikeB said and more.

First, Desmoworld recommended I use the 1-2 day shipping (FedEx) rather than the slower options (like the 6-8 day shipping MikeB used via DHL). It cost all of $9 more and I got the header in one day!! Total price was $377 including shipping!

Second, the quality is outstanding. Beautiful finish, great design, even nice welds. Couldn't ask for more.

Third, it fits like a dream. It took me longer to take the stock cat/header off than to mount the Spark/Desmo header. The only "problem" I had was related to connecting the O2 sensor. It seems Ducati doesn't route the wiring the same way every time. MikeB said he had plenty of extra cable length, I just barely had enough cable to route the sensor to its new location. In looking at the cable routing along the frame rails, it looks like I could cut a few of the zip ties and re-route the O2 sensor line to get a couple of more inches of cable to work with (but it's not worth the hassle). The slip-ons are easier to mount to the new header (not quite sure why, but hey, it's good news) and the new header fits closer to the right side of the bike, so I think it'll have more ground clearance in right hand curves.

Fourth, the bike runs just fine. I have the DP/Termi slip-ons with the street baffles still in place. With that and the O2 sensor connected the bike runs great. (I'm waiting until the bike is broken in and probably until PowerCommander has a unit for the S2R 1000 before I put in the DP airbox, pull the baffles, and have it re-tuned.)

Finally, as MikeB said, it sounds awesome!! I was surprised how big a difference removing the cat made, but the bike has a deep, L-twin rumble now (where as before I could barely hear the exhaust at all). Even my wide said it sounds better (!). The sound it made accelarating onto the freeway was magical. I can't wait until I pull the baffles!!

So, if you're thinking of getting a header for the S2R 1000, get the Spark/Desmoworld unit. It rocks.

More pics. Note that I couldn't use the cable routing tab (like MikeB was able to do) because of my "shorter" O2 sensor cable.

whew! that's a relief [cheeky] you could probably get some good money for your right leg, you don't really need to use the rear brake you know.... :P

On topic, the desmoworld/spark stuff is really nice stuff, can't go wrong with it! [thumbsup]
