Default MikeB..

a couple of questions reagrding the midpipe.
1. does the midpipe attach to the stubby header with a clamp?
2. does the polish finish match the arrow slipons? I have the arrow slipons on order.
3. somebody mentioned about replacing the washers before. did you have to replace yours? what washers do I need to get? where to get them?

thanks..

In answer to your questions;

1. The midpipe attaches to the stubby header with a spring. It slips together with no gaskets and the spring keeps it connected. It is a tight fit and there is no leaking. The stubby joint on the 800, and my previous S4R, fit together with a ring type gasket. This is held with a spring. The spring is on the other side....I forgot to get a shot of it.

2. I am pretty sure you could polish out the Arrow pipes to match. This pipe is raw metal, with no paint or coating, that has been polished. The stock S pipes on the bike have a different type of finish. I think it looks fine. But if you want the Arrows to match you could polish them and it would look good. I think they come raw like this pipe does.

3. The washers I think you are talking about may be the ring type gaskets in the 800/996 bike. There were no washers to replace when I swapped mine out. The header fits in the cylinder like the stock one did. And the stubby header doesn't require a gasket at all. There is a rear stubby header with a gasket/clamp to form the rear connection. The clamp/gasket is different than what was on my S4R. Those ring type gaskets were prone to leaking. The gasket on the rear of the 1000 is a much better design. It all went together fine. Other than that don't know about any "washers".

Hope this helps.....

How easy(or difficult) is it to take out the orig midpipes? I was looking at my bike earlier and it looks like the rear cylinder will be a little bit challenging.

The fitment looks great. You may remember we talked about leakage with the spareshack pipe which I still have a prob. with. Looks like it might be a better flowing crossover where the two pipes meet. What cans will you use? How's that gearing working out? Did you go down town this week?

You don't need to take off the rear stubby header so it's pretty easy. Simply remove the exhaust cans an S pipes. The rear is held to the stubby header by a band clamp. Get a socket with an extension and loosen the clamp. Remove the dog-bones holding the cat to the motor. Then remove the nuts from the front header bolts. Once the front end is loose pull down on the cat and it will slide off the rear stubby header. If it is tight do like I did. I took a hammer and slid the handle between the swingarm and cat. I used it as a lever and the cat slide right off the rear stubby header. That's it.

Yeah, I remember the issues with the Spareshack piece.* In fact I just got an email this morning from someone else with the Type II having fit problems.* Sorry you are still having trouble.

I can tell you this piece by Spark it tons better that the Type II.* Better quality.* Better welds.* Better fit.* I give it 10 out of 10.* I didn't have any trouble with my Type II but it was still a little harder to mount up.* This piece is excellent.

Gearing hasn't gotten here yet.* Should get it later in the week.* It was supposed to get mailed on Monday.* I'll let you know how it works out.

I spent the weekend in the French Quarter and surrounding parade routes with friends from out of town.* After the last 6 months it was good seeing people in the city have a good time.* We sure needed it.*

We also went to the 9th Ward so show our in town guests how bad it still is for lots of people.* And interesting Mardi Gras I must say.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about the flow/cans. The flow has to be better with this pipe. The routing is much smoother and the crossover seems more natural.

Don't know what cans I am going to run. I still have my Sil Motor Ti pipes but the flood wasn't very kind to them. I need to repack them and clean them up. The saltwater ate all the rivets out. So I won't need to drill them.

Right now I kind of like the sound as is with the stock cans. I may just keep the stock cans. We'll see. I'm waiting to see what DynoJet does with the PCIII for this bike since it has an O2 sensor. So for now I'm running the stock cans.
