Default S2R Emissions Canister Removal

I know this article can be found in the faq’s section of DML, I am not sure if this applies as an addendum or maybe I am screwing something up.

Removing the ugly canister on your s2r, bypassing the 'T'

Emission Canister Removal:
1 Two lines go to the canister located on the lower left of your Duc
2 the fatter line is your fuel overflow cut this about an inch from the canister and route it back toward the right rearset. there is plenty of line and you will need to cut the remaining line so your Duc doesn't have a tail!
3 the smaller line going to the canister joins a 'T'. Fine the 'T', now you will trace those lines back to the throttle bodies. You should notice that you have enough line from the horizontal cylinder to join the vertical one using just that line.
4 disconnect the line clamp from the vertical cylinder.
5 cut the line from the horizontal cylinder close to the 'T'
6 slip your line clamp from vertical cylinder over the line from the horizontal and then back onto the vertical throttle body.
7 Slide off the UGLY BOX (canister) and unscrew the Allen bolts holding the canister. BE SURE TO PUT THESE BOLTS BACK AFTER REMOVING THE BRACKET!

NICE and CLEAN!!

if anyone has a better way of explaining this, or I did something stupid please let me know. [thumbsup]

this is very simple. i just finished doing it. go to local auto parts store. i went to auto zone. buy two 1/8" vacuum rubber caps. buy a 1/4" vacuum "Y". the 1/8" caps will go on 1/8" barbed nipple on throttle bodies when those lines are removed. lift tank. i put towels on rear fender and laid tank back on that. cut vent approx. 3" long(fat one) slip run of "Y" into it. cut overflolw to suit the bull of "Y". connect overflow line to the runof the "Y". i trimmed some off the bottom so it didn' t hang out too much. cost: about $4. looks: priceless you'll need to put some spit on the "Y" to ease it on lines. no clamps needed . started bike up and op checked it [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup] remove black box and pull(guide) all hoses out.

Great, i thought of just plugging the nipples on the thottle bodies but wasn't sure if they needed to be connected for balancing air pressure. i am going to plug mine so it is one less hose as well.

I am a little confused about the overflow line, why did you attach a 't' to it? perhaps i didn't understand your directions. I simply routed mine under the seat and out the back by the right rearset.
I want a clean monster with less hoses and lines, could you elaberate on overflow line?

Also, i read your post about the spareshack header question, are you buying the used one from the other member?

thanks

connect both lines under tank via the "Y" not a "T". use one common drain/vent to ground. this reduces the number of hoses on bike. not sure of the header.will more than likely buy new.

There seems to be some question as to plugging the hole or connecting the two nipples via a hose. I think I have definitve proof that one doen not need to connect the two barbed nipples to balance the cylinder pressures. But...I am a liberal arts major so please let me know if I am wrong!

Web Bike stated that the euro versions does not have the emmission canister. So I check the Ducati Workshop manual and there wasn't a hose connecting the cylinders.

Next, I used bikebandit to pull the diagram for the US version to match it to the Euro version to make sure there wasn't a hose connecting the two.

Lastly, I triple check the Ducati parts catalog and the exact replacement for the nipple is screw (773.5.061.8B) and aluminium gasket (852.5.025.1A) which is either a short M5 screw (web bike) or a short M6 screw (bike bandit)
