Re: Diagnostic Computer Interface/Software for 848/1098 and others...
Coincidentally i posted another thread here about this...mistakenly.
Culture, yes this is for the Fi engines.
Don't be mistaken, this cannot do everything the Mathesis can do. The VDST will hook up to certain 4 Gas Analysers, of course a 4 gas analyser is a few thousand (The Gunson Gas tester is $200 but i don't think it will talk to the VDST).
The VDST will also datalog, and with the addition of a Wideband O2 sensor for Air Fuel Ratio(Innovative LC-1....$200), one could essentially street dyno a bike. Now this comes with a small caveat. How adjustable is your ECU? My ecu will allow me to adjust the air trim, but not the fuel trim. I can also advance or retard spark. And of course reset the TPS, clear codes. But the dilemma is the fuel mixture since E3 standards have bikes running really lean. Enter a PCIII or similar fuel tweaking interceptor...another $250. Now, to do this correctly we are in the neighborhood of $700. Not bad if you like to tinker and adjust your system, test, adjust, test, repeat...i do!
The real question is does the 1098 have O2 closed loop system? If it does, and i suspect so, the O2 will constantly be adjusting your AFR (air fuel) over riding the settings, until you get to higher RPMs where the canned ducati map will take over. Will you be able to adjust the table in the higher RPM range?
If you are only interested in clearing codes and resetting your TPS i am not sure this device is worth it to you....but i would contact one of our sponsors that use the VDST, and have experience on your bike.
TPS on all newer bikes are not adjustable, and unless you have adjusted the throttle stop, it doesn't need resetting, well not for a while. and really all the VDST is doing when you reset it is making the new base point where it currently sits....make sense. The older TPS's had slotted holes so you could adjust them.
Don't know if that helps, but i am thinking about buying the VDST also, so i can datalog, from a street dyno run, then pump that info into my PCIII to bring it up to snuff. I will be bypassing the 4 Gas Analyser for now, and probably purchase it next year.
