Gear is one thing, but experience! They have a novice group which is almost always first time track riders. In that group there will be a mixture of control riders whom are expert riders who watch you, show you the lines, and meet with you after each track session to discuss ways to improve. Also in the novice group there is no inside passing only outside, and it is discouraged just because everybody in that group is still getting used to the fact that there are people all around them etc....
You will learn more in track riding one day with instructors then you have learned on your own so far in your motorcycle riding career. They teach you proper technique! At least that is how it worked for me.
