In the meantime, I just picked up a new S2R (and put about 370 miles on it this weekend). I'm getting back into riding after some years off - I had a 81 Honda CM400E when I was 18 or so, and a 82 Yamaha Maxim 650 when I was in college in the late 90s. I was never too serious about riding well or safely when I was a kid, but this time I'm trying to do things right.

And Shrink - pants, gloves, helmet, and jacket don't stick out like, "newbie here," they stick out like, "guy who values his skin here." If you're starting out, and you're wearing good gear, you're ahead of the curve, and it doesn't mean you should stop wearing any of your gear when you get experienced!
I'm into photography, too - on Sunday I was riding around in the country with my Canon and a bunch of lenses strapped to my back in a messenger bag, but I kept forgetting to stop and shoot.
