This Month's Featured Bike:
Peter Hattle's 97 Monster 900

I thank Ducati for providing a motorcycle that ‘demands’ to be personalized.

I love how I can attend a Harley/cruiser event and can always fit in....it must be the clutch noise!

Then I can go to a sportbike weekend and be overwhelmed with compliments and interest.

Finding a crashed red 1997 Monster 900 has brought stages of changes to a bike that has thrilled me for the last 5 yrs. I have fully disassembled the bike twice with a more satisfying result each time.

I continue to develop my monster into what I envision as an aggressive streetfighter.

Whatever I have removed or cut from the bike has been replaced with ‘character building’ components, for my monster and myself!

Mods

- Marchesini magnesium wheels, polished, zinc chromated and powdercoated
- superbike front forks (GSXR), revalved, with black nitrate shafts
- ohlins rear shock
- radial brakes with galfer direct lines
- Brembo radial master cylinders
- Brembo full floating rotors
- FCR 41mm carbs with UNI air filters
- DP 50mm high exhaust
- Nichols flywheel
- DP lightened clutch basket, STM master
- Dynacoil kit and electric fuel pump
- Cycle Cat, Rizoma and DP billet parts
- translucent black powdercoated frame
- DP carbon fibre
- Pro Taper bars
- custom LED taillights and flyscreen
- wires relocated
- extensive powdercoating

25 minutes of backroads to work everyday allows me to confirm the mods help the bike perform better.

2nd place at the Monster challenge finals in 2006 confirms that it looks alright too!

I thank the DML for providing the info, ideas and friends along the way!

Pete Hattle
