This Month's Featured Bike:
Aaron Monroe’S 2005 S2R Dark

(Editors Note: This bike was originally our April Fools article (located here), but Aaron was such a good sport about it...and the bike is actually really nice, so we decided to post a re-write for the rest of April)

Well, since this is my chance to be the Featured Monster (joke or not...), I'm running with it.

After all, today is her 1-year birthday. Picked her up April Fools Day, '05.

Go figure...

The first mod (when I began my slow descent into madness) was the c/f lower cowl and removal of emissions canister. A few days later I gave it a 'half-chop' on the tail and sent the mufflers off to the Legendary Strati for core-ification. 600-mi service came with a 14t front sprocket and dyno work to smooth out the delivery with the cored cans and newly open airbox.

Now she was spinnin' like a top, but wasn't quite 'there' yet. Black spraypaint was in order... rattle-canned the exhaust heatguards, beltcovers, heelguards, shifter linkage, passenger pegs, headlight bracket, and everything else I could get at in an evening. Also about this time, a c/f seatcover, c/f front mudguard, and Monstrack mirrors showed up on my door, needing homes.

A less-than-fortunate turn of events necessitated a new handlebar, so this was my excuse to pull the trigger on CycleCat clip-ons. ...but that would've left fugly bar-risers holding nothing, so a Speedymoto top triple was also in order. And, while I was writing checks... Spareshack got a piece of the action in return for their sexay (and wickedly loud) header pipes. Like I said, 'slippery slope'...

Did the Houston Monster Challenge this year - good times, good folks. Finished mid-pack, which was about what I was expecting. Great fun was had by all.

6000-mi service came with a new bling-bling chain, re-dyno-tune (headers), and the peace of mind of knowing everything was still in spec. AMS rules. The tentative list of future-mods changes regularly, but steering damper, c/f rims (riiiiight...), brakes, adj. forks, and some other big-ticket items are on the wishlist. Still waiting on the lottery for most of it...

Was planning on doing my first trackday a few weeks ago and embarassing Swanny (lowered the forks 1", got new rubber put on) but it got rained out.

There shall be a rematch.

Making the cross-country trip at the end of the month (she'll be riding in the back of the Uhaul ), so if any of y'all SoCal'ers see a dark/pink monster flying around in the near future, wave me down.

Later,
DT
