| This
month's featured bike - Ben Dover's 'Ducrati'! |
 |
[Editor's
note: Since I posted the request for people to submit
their bikes to be the Featured Bike, I've had some interesting
submissions. Here's one of my favorites.]
|
The
bike started out as 1996 or 97 M900 (I bought it from
my cousin and he really didn't know). I had it about
a week when I dropped it after doing some wheelies. When
I looked the tank had a big dent right by the D in Ducati.
Now I had spent all my money on the bike and didn't even
have enough for a helmet, so a $1200 new tank was out.
Plus I didn't have any insurance. So I got some Bondo
from the Pep Boys and fixed the tank as best I could.
I then coated it in gray primer. The Ducati red paint
was hella expensive, so I needed to try something different.
I had a lot of old rattle cans from my tagging days,
so I decided to go with the polka dot theme.

Well, I got a lot of grief from my buddies about the polka
dot thing, so I decided to go for a more 'streetfighter'
look. I got a superbike front fender and tail, painted
the frame red and did a little more custom tank work.
I really like the 'texture' effect on that tank! My
cousin Bubba fabbed up some rearsets and we built a
turbocharger from an old Hoover upright motor! I couldn't
really afford a NOS system, but I added camp fule bottle
from REI to look like one. I also wanted a little more
sound from the bike, so Bubba and I made our own from
the leftover accessory parts of the Hoover upright. My
friends say I really hate to waste anything.
Anyway,
I hope you like my bike!
