The allure of
owning and riding a Monster is something that transcends
rational thinking. My 2000 Monster 750 Dark has gone through a
lot of
changes, both in terms of use and also in terms of look. Modifications
depend mostly on your bank account and partly your creativity.
Originally,
I had used the bike for commuting 140 mi. roundtrip from
Monterey County to Silicon Valley, California every day. Once
I moved
back to Monster Country in the Bay Area, I started asphalt surfing
more
often. The modifications started out with less-expensive ones
at the
beginning followed by more costly (and more dramatic in terms
of
performance/styling) ones. The bike currently has around 28K mi.
on it
and has gone through 6 rear tires and 2 front tires. I run an
M1 on the
front and an MZ4 on the rear.

Most owners have the 900cc engine but I've been very happy with
my 750.
For one thing, weighing around 100 lbs makes quite a difference
in terms
of performance. Since the weather is great 99% of the time in
Northern
California, there are endless ride routes on which the Monster
feels at
home. For some Bay Area ride routes, please visit the SFBMHA site.
