Riding Schools, Track Days and Racing
- compiled by Michael Moore on July 24, 2003

We polled members about attendance at riding schools, track days and any racing. Only 57 responses, but this may be partially due to having moved the poll off the home page.

The good news is that 77% of you have attended an organized riding school. The type of school broke out like this:
School Type # %
MSF Beginner 38 50.7 %
MSF Experienced 8 10.7 %
Keith Code/CA Superbike 3 4 %
Pridmore/CLASS 2 2.7 %
Cornerspeed 2 2.7 %
All others (1 each) 9 11.7 %

Almost 20% had attended a non-school track day. On whether track days were worthwhile, there was a 50-50 split between "yes" and "don't know" [that means 30% of you said 'yes' but haven't been - we have to assume that the folks who have been all said yes, right?]

On the subject of racing here's how the responses went on the question of "Do you race regularly?":
Oil Type # %
No, but I'd like to 34 59.6 %
No, do I look crazy? 20 35.1 %
Yes, I race a non-Ducati 3 5.3 %
Yes, I race a non-Monster Ducati 0 0 %
Yes, I race a Monster 0 0 %
So I'm guessing all those folks snapping up rearsets, high pipes, clipons and high compression pistons are just motoring leisurely down the freeways, right?

So that's the survey. As always, thanks for playing the home game.

Comments
07-17-2003 16:29:26 - GTJerry: I have been racing on and off (mostly off) for the past 15 years. Do it if you gate the chance!
07-14-2003 22:00:36 - Rob W.: In the words of Dirty Harry Callihan, ''A man's gotta limit his hobbies.'' Or something like that.
07-13-2003 11:59:28 - Michelle: I love the track and I can't wait to get my new Ducati Monster on the track
07-11-2003 07:34:43 - John T: M750d; R6 racebike
07-10-2003 16:19:15 - Howard: Can't wait to do some track days. I always recommend MSF for new riders, and plan to take the MSF for experienced riders soon!!

07-10-2003 09:00:41 - Hannah: Just got back from two BCM trackdays at NHIS - can't wait to do it again!!

07-10-2003 06:55:23 - KenTheCarp: Campaigned; Kawasaki H1, Yamaha RD350, TD1C in the early seventies

07-08-2003 17:07:22 - Race Day Dennis: Track Days can be extremely enjoyable. Most people come away from a track day with no more urge to ride on the street. I am one of those people.

07-07-2003 08:30:02 - Sarah Scheidt: MSF is invaluable. For those in the Bay Area, try a Doc Wong clinic. Everyone could use new tips and riding techniques, and it's free and fun! check out docwong.com

07-05-2003 13:31:51 - Rick: Used to race often, about 20 years ago.

07-04-2003 20:23:33 - Wolvie: There is nothing, & I mean NOTHING, more important than solid, professional training.
